Bio-Defense Network was awarded a $25,000 grant by the Conference on Radiological Control Program Directors jointly with the St. Louis regional public health departments to prepare for radiological/nuclear responses through planning for a Community Reception Center, which is utilized to monitor if people are contaminated and then to decontaminate anyone who requires it.  The impetus for the grant was the Westlake Landfill in St. Louis County, which has received national attention for an underground fire that is burning near nuclear radioactive materials that may become a dangerous issue in the future.
