Reuters reports that China has confirmed a new outbreak of African swine fever in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of northern China, as authorities struggle to contain the highly contagious disease.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said a slaughterhouse in the city of Hohhot reported the outbreak, adding that four pigs were infected with, and two had died from, African swine fever.
Now, we know pigs can’t fly, so the spread of swine flu may be slower than avian flu, but the people who handle the pig do fly, so we need to keep a close eye on this latest version of a deadly disease.
