Bio-Defense Network is proud to have joined with St. Louis and St. Charles counties in Missouri to create a new regional radiological response MRC for the St. Louis metropolitan region.
The new unit’s goal will be to recruit, screen and train volunteers experienced in dealing with radiological events to support local, state and national agencies to deal with a radiological event in the region by staffing a community reception center, where residents will be checked for contamination and decontaminated if necessary.
We expect to recruit volunteers in both Missouri and Illinois, and train them to support their community if necessary. Most Medical Reserve Corps units are concentrated in urban areas or larger rural communities, but the new MRC will cover the City of St. Louis and the 17 counties that comprise the Great St. Louis MSA, the 19th largest in the nation, with about 2.8 million residents.
